Early Photography
Photography goes way back to the past and the camera has evolved and improved over the decades. The artists "Renaissance" and "Flemish", were experimenting on how to produce the most accurate painting; for example they used convex mirrors to help them to create the best painting, they also used lenses during the 16th century. The convex was improved during the 16th century by enlarging the hole inserting a telescope lens. The difference between a camera obscura (left) and a camera lucida (right) is that a camera lucida is an instrument in which rays of light are reflected by a prism to produce an image on a sheet of paper so a drawing could be made; whereas a camera obscura is a darkened box with a convex lens or or aperture for projecting the image of an external object to the screen inside. The industrial revolution played an important role to the arts because it brought about many new inventors and theorists, which allowed these inventors to access to new materials and chemicals, brought about the beginning of photography, redefining what people consider "art" for centuries to come. At the end of the 19th century artists responded to the developments in photography in their own way. For example, 'Expressionism' in the early 20th century explored the artist's feelings and emotions onto paper. 'Cubism' rejects the interiority of the artist as a source for the art work; at the same time, it rejects the naturalism of realism and accepts the symbolists interest in art as a visual language, and many more developments.
Family Photo Analysis
In this photo, the positioning of the models are standing, my granddad is leaning down and holding my aunties hand, my grandma is also leaning down and has her hand on her husband's back. My auntie is fully standing and is holding my granddad's hand. My granddad is wearing a suit and tie and glasses, my grandma is wearing a white top and a wooly cardigan and my auntie is wearing a wooly jumper, a hat and trousers. The angle of this photograph is front view. The setting of this photograph is set outside, trees and grass are present. The quality of the print is quite good as the image is not blurry, however, the image is not in colour and is it sepia print.

In the most recent family photograph shows me, my sister and my cousins. We are all sitting on chairs or eachother's laps or on the table and looking at the camera smiling. The angle of this image is also front view. The setting of this image is on the Greek Island, Sifno outside the villa. The colours there are, are white, dark green, brown and turquoise. Whereas in the other photograph there is no colour. The quality of the print is very good as it's sharp, not blurry, it's tonal and straight. The differences in this image and the other image are the clothes. For example, in the old photo the models are covered (suggests the weather) whereas in this image we are wearing bikinies, shorts and short sleeved t-shirts. This is huge difference because the dress code has evolved from the mid 19th century.

Pattern & Structure
For this topic our task was to go around the school and capture interesting patterns and structures on our camera.
Photograms
What is a Photogram?
A photogram is a photographic image made without a camera by placing objects directly onto the surface of a photo-sensitive material such as photographic paper and then exposing it to light. The result is a negative shadow image varying in tone, depending on the transparency of the objects used. Areas of the paper that have received no light appear white and those exposed through transparent or semi-transparent objects appear grey.

The PinHole Camera
The pin hole camera is the simplest camera and is based on the camera obscura, which is a large room or container that has been blacken out except for a small hole of light. (This image illustrates how the pin hole camera works). As you can see, the real life image is reflected onto the back of the container which has photographic paper where the image is then produced in the dark room. My first attempt with this camera wasn't so successful as the images I produced were blurry and the image wasn't clear, therefore I tried and tried again however the same occurred. As a result of this, I used another pin hole camera which worked successfully because the image which developed came out clear. Our task was to take a picture through a window, of a building and a portrait of one of our peers. My best image was the picture taken through a window and of a building. Furthermore, our second task was to 'sandwich print' our chosen photo, which for me was the picture from the window. A 'Sandwich print' is when you combine two negatives or slides into the film carrier of the enlarger and printing on one sheet of paper as one image. This worked successfully for me as the print came out well. (This is my photogram)
SLR Camera (Film Camera)
For this topic, we experimented on SLR film cameras and were instructed to go outside and take portraits of people, use depth of field, change the F stop and the shutter speed. The difficulties that me and my peer faced was to find the exact spot of lighting in order to take the photo. This is because if the lighting was not right, the camera wouldn't take the picture.
